Located on a 5-acre estate, Gekko is an Akita breeder in Lebanon, Illinois. It’s operated by Monica Calvin, who has a long, loving history with the breed.

Gekko is a small-scale breeder. They only have 5 or 6 Akitas at any time, which allows them to dedicate a lot of time to each dog.

They breed for temperament and health. To ensure that their puppies turn out strong and healthy, their breeding dogs are certified clear of hip dysplasia, luxating patellar, and elbow dysplasia through OFA, and clear of heritable eye diseases through annual examination through CERF.

You don’t just have to take their word for it either. On their website, you’ll find a page for each dog that contains information about its pedigree as well as its health clearances.

Since they’re a small breeder, you’ll most likely have to be on a waitlist before you’ll be eligible to adopt a Gekko puppy. In addition, you’ll have to complete a questionnaire so that Monica can see whether her pups will be a good fit for your home.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing Skyline’s website was not working. However, there is an archived version available which I used to get some information about this breeder.

Chrissy has owned Akitas since 2002 and enjoys showing in conformation. She’s also volunteered at the local rescue for over 15 years.

Skyline is a very small breeding program; they have 1 boy and 2 girls, the pedigrees of which are listed on their website.

This breeder is quite active on social media. Not only do they post many wonderful pictures on their Instagram, but they also have a YouTube channel where you can see videos of their dogs.

Final words

Hopefully, this list of breeders made it a little bit easier for you to find a place to buy your perfect Akita puppy in Illinois. There are quite a few great breeders in this state, so one of them should be able to accommodate you.

Keep in mind that finding a good breeder is not something that should be done hastily. Take your time, ask questions, and get familiar with them. The breeder you choose will be responsible for laying the foundation for your dog’s entire life!

If you did not find a suitable breeder on this list, you might want to try checking out some breeders in nearby Ohio as well!

ThePetFaq recommends adoption from a rescue center over buying from a breeder. However, we also understand that adopting is not always possible and that there are many good reasons for choosing to buy from a breeder. Please note that we did not visit these breeders in person, however, we did research them to find as much information about them as possible. Always do your own research when buying a puppy!
