Mimar is an Akita breeder located in Austintown, OH, which is between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. It is operated by Mary and Mike Mignogna who have been involved with the breed since 2002 and produced their first litter in 2013.

Aside from breeding, Mary is also an active participant in the show ring. She trains and shows the dogs in conformation, rally, and obedience through the AKC, CKC, and the ICA and the dogs have won a variety of titles and awards. Furthermore, she’s a member of various kennel and Akita clubs.

Firebrand is a small, family-owned kennel located in Central Ohio, near Columbus. It’s operated by Dr. Erin Runcan, DVM, DACT, who has a passion for the breed and focuses on producing responsibly bred AKC Akitas.

Erin is a member of the AKC as well as the ACA. She takes the craft of breeding very seriously and produces high-quality pups that are healthy and social.

Currently, Firebrand has 2 dogs in its breeding program. The male is named MaJer, and the female is named Ember. Both dogs have been extensively health tested and the OFA numbers are available on their website so that you can verify them in the OFA database.

In addition, they also have the pedigrees of both MaJer and Ember listed on their website, as well as the show results that the dog has obtained.

This breeder seems to be more on the commercial side compared to the previous two listings. They have the results of their health tests listed on their website so that you can easily check them in the OFA database and they also have the pedigrees available for you to see. It is of course possible that the other 2 breeders on this list also have this information, but they do not publicly list it.

Since there are not so many Akita breeders active in Ohio, it might also be worth it to look outside your own state. For many people it’s worth it to take a trip to a different state in order to find their perfect puppy.
