Located in Northern California, in the city of Gilroy, which is about 75 miles south of San Francisco, you’ll find Mojo. Mojo is an Akita breeder that’s been breeding these wonderful dogs since 2004, giving them a ton of experience in their craft.
Mojo is operated by Paul and Stacey Borrmann, two people with a love for Akitas. They have been purebred Akita owners since 2001 and participate in shows and have won titles and awards. They are an AKC breeder of merit and are members of several Akita clubs.
Stacey and Paul strive to produce healthy and sound Akita puppies that conform to the AKC standard with excellent temperaments. They breed to improve the breed and do not mass produce puppies. They only have a few litters a year and OFA and CERF health clearances are always performed prior to breeding.
They raise the pups in their own home with lots of attention and care in order to make them well socialized. Because they are such a small breeder, they do have a waiting list, but it’s worth it because you get an amazing pup.
Mojo has 5 boys and 8 girls, the pedigrees and health checks of all of which are available on their website.
This is in my opinion the best Akita breeder in California.

Final words
There are many good Akita breeders out there, but also some to avoid. Royalty Akitas seems to be a breeder with a poor reputation that is best avoided. Not only do they have many complaints online, but there’s even a website dedicated to warning people not to buy a puppy from them.
Whenever you buy a puppy it’s extremely important that you take all the time you need to orientate yourself with several different breeders. Contact them, ask them questions, and look at the experiences of others online. Buying a puppy is never something that should be rushed!
Hopefully, though, this list of Akita breeders in California made your search a bit easier!
ThePetFaq recommends adoption from a rescue center over buying from a breeder. However, we also understand that adopting is not always possible and that there are many good reasons for choosing to buy from a breeder. Please note that we did not visit these breeders in person, however, we did research them to find as much information about them as possible. Always do your own research when buying a puppy!
